WARREN J. FERGUSON On February 9, 2010, Warren James Ferguson, at the age of 88, passed away peacefully at the Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg. Son of the late Archibald and Hannah Ferguson; beloved husband of Eveline Mary (Mollie) (nee Duff); brother to the late June Parssinen (Ollie); loving father of James (Marilyn), Derek (Cheryl-Lynn) and David (Lynn) and proud grandfather to Madeline, Christopher, Celeste, Matthew, Scott, Andrew and Claire. Warren proudly served with the Canadian Corps of Signals during the Second World War, being released from regular force as a Major. He continued his affiliation with the military after the war and joined the Reserve Forces and ultimately became the Commanding Officer of 10th Independent Signal Squadron. One of Warren's most rewarding achievements was to be named in 2002 as the honorary Colonel of the 735 Communications Regiment, which was a fitting culmination to his military service. He enjoyed a long career as a telecommunications engineer with the Manitoba Telephone System and prior to retirement, was honoured to be appointed to the role of Regional Vice President (Canada) for the Telephone Pioneers of America, a worldwide telecommunications industry organization dedicated to answering the call of those in need . The position gave Warren and Mollie an opportunity to travel throughout North America and garner many wonderful friends and experiences. Warren loved to be active and his pursuits were legendary. He was an avid skier having continued to purchase season passes at Whistler into his 80s and can be credited with creating a family of passionate skiers. He enjoyed everything to do with the water, from his scuba diving to his lovingly preserved wooden canoe, to the many summers aboard Phoenix', his 32 foot cruiser on the Lake of the Woods. He became a fitness enthusiast later in life when he and Mollie joined the Kinsmen Reh-Fit Centre at the age of 63 and continued to regularly exercise there for the next 23 years. Warren enjoyed meeting people and sharing his life stories, and was instantly loved by everyone he touched. His gentlemanly charm, wit, passion for life and love of family will be sadly missed, but forever cherished. Mass of the Resurrection will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 12, 2010 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 254 Arnold St., followed by a reception at the Manitoba Club, 194 Broadway, to celebrate his long and rich life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Unit 10 - 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
