JOAN SHEILA AINSLIE March 17, 1917 - February 7, 2010 Mum passed away in the afternoon of February 7, 2010 at Stanford Place Care Campus in Parksville, BC after having battled with vascular dementia for some time. She will be sorely missed by family, sons Barry (Sharon) and Bill (Jean), granddaughters Sheila Dix (Dave), Cheryl Cameron (Mark), Barbara Bhatt (Arjun), grandsons Ryan and Jonathan Ainslie (Leila), and great-grandchildren, Sarah and Lauren Cameron, William (Billy) Dix, and Conner Ainslie. Also mourning and missing her will be Mum's cousins, Mavis and her hubby Ron Trask of Sidney, BC, Pam Taylor of Victoria, sisters-in-law Shirley Johnson of Winnipeg, MB and Ruth Ainslie of Steinbach, MB, and many nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by many friends made whilst she and Matt lived in Winnipeg where she had grown up, Victoria, where they had retired, and residents of Stanford Place in Parksville. All thought of her as a classy lady and her caregivers grew very fond of her, both at her former residence, Oceanside Place, and at Stanford Place where she resided and was exceptionally well cared for, during the last months of her life. Joan was born during a Zeppelin raid in the Great War in England, March 17, 1917 to Charles William (a Canadian army serviceman) and Rose Eve Johnson and was predeceased by both parents and Matt, the love of her life, and her one brother, Grant Lionel Johnson (Shirley) only last year. Our family is indebted to her physician Dr. Carey Sulz and the many thoughtful and caring staff members of Stanford Place. Their gentle touch and steadfast interest in assuring her comfort as she neared the end and flew off to join Matt will always be remembered. A gathering of family will be planned later this spring to celebrate Joan's life. Flowers are gratefully declined; however, should individuals wish to contribute to a charity in her memory, The Salvation Army was one of the family's favourite charities.
