COLEMAN MURRAY KAUFMAN The loving family of Coleman Murray (Coley) Kaufman sadly announces his sudden yet peaceful passing on January 30, 2010 with his beloved wife Sandy by his side. He is also survived by and will be deeply missed by daughters Marna (Jim Ramsey) and Leslie, and grandchildren Caleigh, Hilary, Hannah, Brendan, Noa and Adi, as well as brother-in-law and sister-in-law Barry and Marcy Schwartz, his nieces and nephews, extended family members and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Goldie Kaufman, his parents-in-law Hy and Ella Schwartz, and his sister and brother-in-law Evelyn and Joey Raymond. Coley was born in Winnipeg on February 6, 1932 and raised in Shoal Lake, MB until the family moved to Winnipeg when he was 15 years old. He graduated from St. John's High School and United College and attended the University of Manitoba until he joined his father in the family business, Servwell Supermarket. He was a self-made and very well respected businessman, who went on to found Knight Lock Ltd. and Shield Supply and Service Ltd. He retired in 1997, which lasted all of three months, after which he established a part-time business, Mutual Vending, which left him more time for his hobbies including his involvement in his beloved Ghost Squadron. This was born out of his love for the military, where he served as a Commissioned Officer in the rank of Captain in the Fort Garry Horse and was a member of its Regimental Senate. Coley was a past President of the St. James Chamber of Commerce as well as a very active member of the Manitoba Locksmiths Association and of Associated Locksmiths of America. Family time was very important to Coley, whether it was weekends boating, camping or snowmobiling, or family vacations. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He greatly enjoyed keeping tabs on his grandchildren's activities and attended them whenever he could. He was extremely close with Sandy's extended family, and also cherished his time with his breakfast and lunch buddies each and every week. Coley was an optimist who always saw the cup half full. He was known for his great sense of humour. He was a very modest and honest man who was not materialistic but rather enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. What mattered to him the most was his family and his many dear friends from several walks of life. It gave him great pleasure to do things for others. Funeral services were held on February 2 at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. Pallbearers were Jim Ramsey, Marc Raymond, Danny Stoller, Allen Pitch, Howard Pitch, Jeffrey Rabb and Ian Rabb. Honorary Pallbearers were Barry Schwartz, David Rabb, Ken Katz, Earl Pitch, Phil Colosimo and Joe Greenberg. Our sincere thanks to the kind and compassionate paramedics. For those who desire, donations may be made in Coley's memory to the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. We will love you and miss you forever and want you to know that the bagel and challah runs will continue.
