Date of Passing: Feb 10, 2010
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNA BROWN (nee TIMONEY) 1927 - 2010 It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Anna Winifred Brown on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Victoria General Hospital. Predeceased by her sister Nuala, Anna leaves to mourn sisters Maire Timoney, Nora and Michael Still of Lachine, children and grandchildren Lesley (Bianca, Kody), Neil and Kathy (Daryl, Russell), Sheila (Dillon, Maxine) as well as numerous nephews, nieces and friends. Mom was born and grew up in Glasgow, Scotland. She spoke fondly of summers in Ireland, of going to the pictures or dancing with her sisters and girlfriends, and of her first job as a telephone operator. She was married in 1952 and immigrated to Canada in 1957 with two young children. Her spirit of adventure and enduring faith allowed her to adapt to life in Moosonee, a remote village in the James Bay region. It was there that she had her third child and resumed her working life, first as an emergency ham radio operator and then at the Hudson's Bay Store. Her long career at The Bay continued as the family moved to Inuvik, Fort Churchill, and finally Winnipeg, where she worked in accounts payable at the downtown store and then at the distribution centre until 1987. Throughout her life Anna was a fun-loving woman who enjoyed Irish dancing, music and laughter and good company. She became an avid curler while living in the north and participated in many bonspiels, including the 1966 North West Territories finals. She filled our home with trophies as she continued curling at H.M.C.S. Chippawa, where she was also a member of the White Ensign Club. Anna will be dearly missed by her many friends at the Villa Cabrini, where she made her home for the last 21 years. With them she enjoyed many outings and trips to Mexico. Her quiet nature and willingness to lend a hand, or just to listen, made her a friend to all. Prayer Vigil will take place on Monday evening, February 15, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. from Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave. Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church. Reverend Father Sam Argenziano celebrant. Cremation to follow, interment at a later date. The family wishes to thank all of the staff at Victoria Hospital. In particular we want to thank Dr. Jean Young and Nurses Cheryl, Laurie, Albert, Christine, Heather, and Jerry for their compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund, 1111 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3G 0S8.
