JOAN ELIZABETH DAWSON (nee Allen) May 23, 1934 - February 6, 2010 Peacefully, following a brief illness, it is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Joan Dawson on Saturday, February 6, 2010 in the Riverview Health Centre at 75 years. Joan is loved and remembered by her husband Dave; daughter Sue (Brad) Green; sons John (Pauline), Rich (Shari); grandchildren Ryan, Mitch, Carter, Casey; and by her Great Pyrnees Meekwa. She will also be greatly missed by many friends, neighbours, cousins, aunts, uncles, in-laws, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Bill; daughter-in-law Linda; her parents Inga and Winston Allen and many beloved pets (especially Murdoch). Born an only child to Inga and Winston Allen on May 23, 1934, Joan was always a hard-working independent and creative individual. She married Dave on her birthday in 1959 and just recently celebrated 50 years of marriage this past May. Having her children and grandchildren was ultimately her greatest joy. Joan loved family and especially spending the summers at Granite Lake with lots of kids and dogs. She loved having her cousin Lill (Bill) and the Mulligan clan as her neighbours. She always provided the best cuts of beef for the Dawson big meat barbecues. It was her keen eye for the specials that filled our homes and the cabin with her treasures. Mom always got the best deal ever . Christmas was also a favourite time for Joan. We will always remember her for the turkey dinners (with turnip, of course) and the joy she brought with her generosities. Joan thought it was time to start working, outside of the home, at the age of 40 when her youngest child started school. She stayed employed with the Federal Government for 32 years and only recently retired at the age of 72. Joan loved her work and her friends. She was always ready to lend a helping hand. She did past volunteer work for the MS Society, Junior League and many years for UNICEF. To those who are fortunate enough to still have your mother with you, please give her a hug and tell her that you love her. Our time together is so precious. A private family interment will be held in the spring. The family extends heart filled gratitude to the wonderful and caring staff on the third floor E wing of the Riverview Health Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan's name would be greatly appreciated to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 1L8.
