OLGA DIXON June 1, 1920 - February 10, 2010 Peacefully on February 10, 2010 Olga was welcomed into God's arms. Olga was predeceased by her beloved husband, Reginald, parents, Anna and Anton, brother, John (Josephine/Esther) and sisters, Rose (Michael) and Christine (Steve). She will be lovingly remembered by her brother, William (Anne), nephew, Kenneth (Li-Ying), and nieces, Joanne (Pierre), Deanna (Harold), Earla, Carolyne (David), Marcia (Dennis), Patricia, and Janis (Allan) and many grand nephews and nieces. Born and educated in Winnipeg, Olga was a gifted student with an innate curiosity and desire to learn. Olga was most proud of her pattern making and design work in the clothing industry, having been trained by European masters who designed for the Royal Family. Always fashionable, Olga will be remembered for being a classy and sophisticated lady. Reg was the love of her life and they were married in 1948. In 1957, they relocated to San Gabriel, California where she enjoyed being close to the film industry and having those chance encounters with a movie star or two. She loved the natural beauty of her new homeland but it was the majesty of the palm trees from which she took inspiration. Olga had a deep faith and was an active parishioner of the Mission San Gabriel Archangel. She enjoyed travelling and, with Reg, explored California, Nevada and Mexico at every opportunity. Her dream to visit Hawaii was fulfilled in 1962 and the beauty of that state captured her heart. In 2002, Olga moved to Riverview Care Center in Crookston, Minnesota. She soon adopted the Staff and Residents as her American family. She was lovingly nicknamed their guru and accepted the title proudly. She enjoyed being a part of their lives. With her forthright personality and sense of humour, she naturally drew people to her. She was a gifted communicator and she generously shared her many adventures with those around her. Our family is indebted to her physician, Dr. Theodore Olson, and the exceptional and compassionate Staff at Riverview Care Center in Crookston. The Staff not only extended their love and care to Olga but to her family and there are no words that can express our gratitude. The family would also like to express our grateful appreciation for the care provided Olga by the Doctors and Staff at the Riverview Hospital. A funeral service celebrating Olga's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. with visitation one-half hour prior to service, Saturday February 20, 2010 in the Chapel at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, in Winnipeg. Father Bohdan Lukie will officiate. Entombment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu, donations can be made in memory of Olga to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, R3C 1L8, or to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, R3C 0S6.
