VERA DORIS CASSIE (nee THRUSH) May 20, 1916 - January 13, 2010 Our Mother, Vera Doris Cassie passed away peacefully at home on January 13, 2010 at the age of 93. Mom will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her children Bob and Sheila Cassie, Bonnie and Don Gordon, Gail and Tom Mace and Gord and Lois Cassie as well as by her grandchildren Bryon (Kelly), Michael (Carrie), Linda (Clif), Jason (Angela), Corina (Trevor), Glen (Kristen), Lori (Dallas), Scott (Vanessa), Heather and her 13 great-grand-children. Her memory will also be cherished by her sister and brother-in-law Eileen and Erwin Anderes, brother-in-law Edward Cassie and sister-in-law Mildred Dayton as well as many nieces and nephews. Vera was predeceased by her loving parents Thomas and Maude Thrush, her brothers Douglas and Mervin and her former husband Gordon. She was born May 20, 1916 in Winnipeg, where she resided her entire life. She began her working career at Timothy Eaton Co., then worked several years at Waugh's Annex, close to home, while raising her young family on her own. She went on to Sears Catalogue Dept. where she worked until her retirement. Her family meant everything to her and she was proud of their many accomplishments. She always enjoyed her many family gatherings. She loved picnics, playing cards, her walks in Assiniboine Park at the Conservatory and the English Garden and sitting with her sister Eileen on their bench. She loved spending time at the cottage at Falcon Lake where she and her sister could be heard saying Oh, my! What a beautiful sunset . ln her younger years Mom enjoyed square dancing, bowling and fishing. She taught her children an appreciation for the outdoors and was ultimately responsible for their love of camping as well as cross country and downhill skiing. Mom delivered Meals On Wheels with Eileen until she was well into her 80s. Vera taught her children by example how to be loving, caring parents. She will always be in our hearts. We all miss you Mom. We would like to thank Dr. Rumbolt for his care and attention over the years. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Vera's honour may be made to the charity of your choice. A celebration of Vera's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 26 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
