Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN (JACK) PATTIE On Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at Extendicare Oakview Place, in his 95th year, Jack Pattie passed away peacefully. Survived by sons, Robert (Doreen), John (Rosemary) and Frank (Iris); grandchildren Audrey and John (Shyla), Douglas (Kelsey), Jeffrey and Tanis (Brad); great grandchildren Rhainnon and Keira, Mathew and Sarah, Kait and Brooke. Also survived by his sister Shirley Foot; sisters-in-law Dorene and Ruth Pattie, Viola Swonnell; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by wife Phyllis; sister Appline Brooks; brothers Roy and Mitchell Pattie; in-laws Gil Brooks, Morley Foot, Walter and Irene Wiggins, Horace and Beth Swonnell, Eddie and Ann Swonnell, and Frank Swonnell. Jack was born in Winnipeg June 28, 1915, and grew up in St. James on Vernon Road where the airport is now. He attended Linwood School / St. James Collegiate, walking three miles each way. Jack left school at an early age to help support his family, delivering groceries by horse drawn wagon and sleigh during the depression. In 1941 he started work at Christie Brown and Co. When the Second World War broke out he enlisted and served at Dundurn, Saskatchewan. After discharge Jack returned to Christie's where he worked for 39 years, retiring in 1980. Jack and Phyllis Swonnell were married October 30, 1943, for 45 years, raising three sons. Grand Beach and the family cottage were an important part of Jack's life, having spent summers there from the time he was a small child through his retirement years. Jack was a long time member of Deer Lodge Curling Club; St. James Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder; and Army and Navy Unit 283. After retirement he enjoyed golfing, bowling and travelling with Shirley and Morley. The family thanks those who supported Jack in recent years, especially his sister Shirley, his neighbour Wally at the beach, the Staff on third floor Oakview Place and Dr. Karen Moran De Muller. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at St. James Presbyterian Church, 1476 Portage Avenue, Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James Presbyterian Church or a charity of choice.
