WILLIAM SOLOMON Passed away suddenly at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket on Sunday, February 14, 2010 in his 86th year. Bill was born in Gimli, Manitoba on April 9, 1924. He will be sadly missed by his sons William John (Barbara) and Douglas Allen (Jackie) and daughters Nancy, Rose, Mary Susan and Dorothy. Beloved grandfather of David, Casey, Charleen, Dereck, Daniel and Krista. Survived by Mary R. Solomon, his wife, married in 1952 (separated 1979). Predeceased by Heidi Stierhof, his companion from 1985 until her untimely death in 2003. William (Mighty-Bill) trained in the Canadian Armed Forces as a Nursing Orderly at the rank of Private. He was employed at this trade in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. He served from October 1943 to April 1946. He was Discharged from the Service Under Routine Order 1029(5ci) by reason of to return to civil life on demobilization. After moving to Toronto, the sport of wrestling became his passion. He won the Ontario Champion Welter Weight Division in 1950. Soon after this stage, Bill began to excel in his career as a Construction Site Superintendent, (Local #27). Many schools in the Toronto area were built under Bill's supervision. Mighty-Bill, (a name his colleagues fondly bestowed upon him) retired from the Toronto School Board in 1991 (carpenter) and remained active, travelling abroad and enjoying his children and grandchildren. Funeral service to be held at Roadhouse Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main Street South, Newmarket on Sunday, February 21, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. immediately followed by a Celebration of Bill's Life at his Newmarket residence. If desired, donations in memory of William Solomon may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
