Bill was very involved in community groups and organizations including Ralph Brown Community Centre and Zhoda Community Hall. He was a dedicated, hard working volunteer receiving a Mayoral Citation in 1976 for his community contributions. Throughout Bill's life, sports played a very important role. Baseball was his first love followed by curling in his later years. Bill played in the South East Manitoba Baseball League as a renowned pitcher. In 2008, Bill along with his team The Vita Cubs (1955-1960) was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame. Later, he enjoyed many years of curling with various clubs in Winnipeg. Bill's love for his family, his strong work ethic, his meticulous attention to detail and his love for the farm were values he maintained throughout his life.
