ALAN GORDON CARMICHAEL With great sadness we announce that Alan Gordon Carmichael (Angie) passed away peacefully on Friday, February 26, 2010 at Riverview Health Care Centre. Alan was predeceased by his brothers Jack and Bill, sister Marjorie, his beloved daughter Mari Lafreniere and sadly, just by hours, his nephew David McGavin who gave him the name Angie . Alan will be lovingly remembered by Ella, his wife of 65 years, daughters, Janet (Mike) and Alison (David), son-in-law Guy Lafreniere, Mike's mother Sheila Sampson, the Vickers family, grandchildren, Andrea (Christiaan), Laurel (Jeremy), Alan (Robin), Ian (Teresa), Graeme, Matt (Jennifer), Michael and great-grandchildren, Anika, Isobel, Meghan, Olivia, Evan, Vivian and Isla. Alan Carmichael was a kind and gentle man who was loved and respected by his family, friends and colleagues. He served in the Canadian Navy during the war. In 1945 Alan married his childhood sweetheart, Ella and together they raised three beautiful daughters. Alan loved his girls and taught them that they could be or do anything they wanted. Alan joined Great-West Life in 1947 where he worked for 42 years in Winnipeg and Denver, Colorado. Alan retired from Great-West in 1989 as Senior V.P. Individual Operations. Alan was Mr. Great-West Life . Alan was a master swimmer, a sports fan, a photographer, a dog lover, a recycler, a mentor, a friend and a talented builder. Ella and Alan greatly enjoyed their summers with family and many friends at Victoria Beach. With the help of their daughters, sons-in-law and friends, Alan and Ella have continuously expanded the family cottage Culroy to accommodate their growing family. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 4 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
