PEGGY NEAL October 27, 1941 - February 22, 2010 It is with broken hearts that we announce Mum's unexpected death. We are so grateful that our beloved Peggy died quickly and peacefully without any suffering. As Mum had in recent years expressed the desire to move out West, we are comforted by the knowledge that she had completed her spiritual geography quest by taking her final breaths alongside the Pacific Ocean, while walking with a friend in Victoria, BC. She was predeceased by her father Scott and mother Marnie, and is survived by her Aunt Betty, her brothers Bill (Diane), David (Mary) and Jim (Cherrie), her two children Robert and Marnie (Mike), her niece Heidi and nephews Jamie, Jonathan, Rick and Allen, and her surrogate grandchildren , neighbours Easton and Abbie Kapelus, and many beloved friends. Peggy grew up in Winnipeg and later lived in Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver. She returned to Manitoba to spend 15 wonderful years raising Robbie and Marnie with Bob Lidstone alongside the Brokenhead River near Beausejour. Peggy travelled extensively throughout her lifetime and we were privileged to accompany her on several journeys, including trips to Australia, Thailand, and Cuba. We thank Mum for sharing with us her childlike sense of fun and adventure. She returned home to spend the remainder of her life among friends and family in Fort Garry. Peggy expressed an endless sense of curiosity and wonder about the world, her fellow human beings, other creatures and elements of nature. She loved to ride horses, walk dogs, watch for deer or bear tracks, and identify bird calls, as well as swim, canoe, and kayak, which she did for 68 summers in Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba. Mum had an independent spirit and learned to march to the beat of her own drum. At the same time, she effortlessly befriended many different people of all ages and walks of life. Though she will not be soon forgotten she will eternally be (as her chosen Sonnet of the Pantheist proclaims) sunlight on the sea . We ask you to join us in celebrating Peggy's life at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 5 in the upper hall of Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Road, Winnipeg. For those who wish to partake in a group display of everlasting friendship and memorial, please wear yellow. Flowers are gratefully declined.
