IRENE FRANKLIN Peacefully on Saturday, February 27, 2010 Irene Franklin passed away at Oakview Extendicare, her home for the last 14 months, in her 92nd year. She was the last member of the Robinson family of Headingley and predeceased by her husband Clarence who was also the last member of his family. An era has come to an end. Delivered at home, July 4, 1918 with her father acting as midwife, she started an interesting journey. She took her schooling in Phoenix School and worked through the poor' times as a nanny in Winnipeg until she came to work for Dora and Clarence Franklin where she met and planned her future with their son. In their lifetime she had the farm to keep her busy, Granny Dora lived with them and two girls Judy and Gail were born of this union. Irene sold Mutual of Omaha Insurance with Clarence as her chauffeur and she worked at Zellers. She was Secretary Treasurer of Nanton School for years and involved in various offices with the Manitoba Farmers Union but the Manitoba Farm Safety Council and the yearly Queen Contest remained nearest and dearest in her memories. Another fun time was four years of writing radio comments for CBC and CKY TV. In later years, she compiled stories she had written over time and made books for her family and friends. Predeceased by Lillian (Leon) Kilworth, Evelyn (George) McIntosh, Jack (Ursula) Robinson, Nellie (Bert) Shirtliffe, Bernice (Joe) Todd, Irwin Franklin and son-in-law Edwin Jones. She is survived by her daughters Gail Jones, Judy (Rod) Smyth, six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 4 at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard from 7:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. A celebration of life will take place on Friday, March 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 5335 Portage Avenue in Headingley. Interment will follow in the Holy Trinity Parish Cemetery.
