WILLIAM (BILL) JOHN SITARIK 1939 - 2010 Suddenly, with his family at his side, Bill passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at St. Boniface Hospital. He is survived by his beloved wife Irene, his sons, David (Paula), Dale, his granddaughters Reed and Bryn of Winnipeg, his sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Allen Danelley of Nipigon Ont. and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Mary Sitarik, his brothers Walter and Andy Sitarik and sister Mary McColl all of Thunder Bay Ontario. Bill was born and raised in Thunder Bay Ont., where he attended Hillcrest High School and furthered his education at Lakehead College prior to taking a job with the CNR as a Survey Technician. He met Irene in high school and they married November 4, 1961. They started their family in Thunder Bay and he was transferred to Winnipeg by the railroad in 1971. Bill spent 34 years with the CNR in varying positions. He was Coordinator of Regulatory Affairs at the time of his retirement in 1994. He had made numerous friends during his career and always had a story to tell from his railroad days. Bill was a jack-of-all-trades . He was extremely proud of the fact that he built their home on Velva St. in Thunder Bay from the ground up. In 1973 after he and Irene had moved to Winnipeg, they purchased an apartment block and spent until 1982 being landlords. He enjoyed being outdoors whenever possible. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and he spent many hours in the wilderness of Northern Ontario. Later in life he enjoyed tending to his large vegetable garden and was always showing off his latest crop to friends and family. Bill believed the place to start in the community was at the church, therefore when they moved to Winnipeg in 1971 he joined St. Bernadette Parish. He was member of the church and involved in the Parish Men's Club and bowling league for many years. Bill enjoyed socializing and he loved to dance, play the guitar and always had a story or a joke to tell. He cherished the time he spent with his family and could never say no to his grandchildren. We invite family and friends to a celebration of his life on Friday, March 5, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood Road, with Father Fred Olds officiating. Interment to follow at St. Boniface Cemetery, Archibald St. Memorial donations may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
