EDITH ALLISON BRUCE (nee ILSLEY) October 27, 1922 - February 28, 2010 Beloved wife of John Bruce (1907-2007) for over 60 years, Edith will be greatly missed by her children, Jamie (Cindy) Bruce, Mary (Bryan) Graham and Scott (Mary) Bruce. Daughter of the Rt. Hon. J.L. Ilsley and his wife Evelyn, and sister to Grace, Edith was born in Nova Scotia. Her career as a commercial artist led her to Toronto where she met and married John. They subsequently moved to Winnipeg where they forged many close and long-lasting friendships. Early retirement years were spent in Toronto and Terra Cotta, followed by a move to Vancouver which opened a new chapter in their lives, filled with good friends, interesting travels and many happy times with family. Edith is fondly remembered by her grandchildren David (Una) Bruce, Martha (Graeme) Martindale, Andrew Graham, Jamie and Alison Bruce. Her legacy also includes two great-grandchildren, Lorna and Evelyn Bruce. Edith's sharp intellect, her artistic creativity and her skill at the bridge table, a life-long passion of hers, will be remembered by all who knew her. We are grateful for the care she received at Crofton Manor and Sunrise Seniors Residence, and are especially thankful for the kindness shown by Genevieve Schneider in recent years. Cremation has taken place in Vancouver and will be followed by burial in Toronto. In Edith's memory, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated.
