Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFLOVENT JONAS SIGFUSSON It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, Afi, and brother, Flovent Jonas Sigfusson on March 5th 2010 at the age of 77 years, with his family by his side, at the Lakeshore General Hospital in Ashern, MB. Flovent was born on August 8th, 1932 in Oakview, Manitoba, the fourth of six children. He grew up on the family farm located along the eastern shore of Lake Manitoba. He attended the Darwin, the Narrows, and Ashern Schools. Flovent helped with the family farm and fished on Lake Manitoba as a young man, then left the farm for a short time to work on the railroad as a relief worker. This took him to such places as Kitimat, BC, and Beaudette, Minnesota. He chose to return home where he would continue to farm with his father, and later was able to purchase a small farm close to home. In the fall of 1967 he married Rita Warwick and together they farmed along with his dad and his brother Elmer. Here they would raise their two children, Lanyth and Loewen. Dad was also a commercial fisherman on Lake Manitoba for many years. He was instrumental in the formative years of the Ashern Auction Mart and served as secretary for 24 years. The farm was important to Dad and he took great pride in his Hereford cattle. He had a strong work ethic and lived by the motto a job worth doing is worth doing well . Dad loved sports. He spent many weekends hunting, in curling bonspiels, and socializing with friends. Dad's greatest passion was baseball. He spent many years playing with the Siglunes Seals and was proud that the team would later be inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame. In later years he enjoyed watching all sports on television. Dad enjoyed sharing a good laugh, listening to country music and singing. Flovent loved his family. He greatly valued Rita's selflessness and dedication to honest hard work in all aspects of their life. He was proud to have a wife and partner so committed to the farm and their family. Flovent placed great importance on his children's education and was proud of their achievements. He treasured moments spent with his grandchildren. He loved them and they loved their Afi. Flovent is survived by and lovingly remembered by his wife of 42 years Rita, his daughter Lanyth and husband Larry Tober, his son Loewen and wife Heather, and four grandchildren: Talyia and Tansy Anna-Jean, Kaden and Shanley, and a fifth grandchild expected in May, sister Oleen (Ray) Richter, brother Elmer, sisters-in-law Joyce and Joan, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Flovent was predeceased by his parents Gisli and Anna; his brothers Sigmar (Margaret), Skapti, and Gisli and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Bert and Jean Warwick. The family would like to thank the staff at the Ashern Personal Care Home, Dr. Ramadan, and the nursing staff at The Lakeshore General Hospital for their care and compassion during Flovent's lengthy stay. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 11th, 2010 at 2:00 p.m., at the Siglunes Community Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Interment to follow in the Oakview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Lakeshore Hospital Guild c/o Julie Bergner, Box 721, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0 or the Siglunes Community Club c/o Edna Sandmoen, General Delivery, Vogar, MB R0C 3C0. Please Dear Lord, hold him in your arms and treasure him with care, Make up for all he suffered and all he had to bear.
