DARCY SHUSHKEWICH (nee KAWKA) December 19, 1943 March 4, 2010 It is with much sadness that the family of Darcy Shushkewich announces her passing on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the age of 66 years. Darcy died peacefully with her family at her side at the St. Boniface Hospital after a brief, yet brave battle with cancer. With her passing, Darcy leaves to mourn, William, her loving husband of 46 years, and her three children, Debbie Ducharme (Darrell), Russ Shushkewich (Laura), and Dan Shushkewich (Tracy). Her five grandchildren, Brian and Amanda Ducharme, Tyson Shushkewich, and Brandon and Everett Shushkewich, will miss their Baba very much. Darcy is survived as well as by her three sisters, Anne Sosnoski, Marcia Nahuliak, and Donna Josefchuk (Michael). Mom's best friend was her sister-in-law, Mary Prouse (Willy) of Alberta. Darcy was a very light-hearted person who managed to find the positive in most everything she did. She passed her love of travel onto her three children. Darcy was not afraid to go out and make her mark, and, in recent years, she had travelled to Mexico to teach English as a second language to the local residents. Her love of Mexico was evident as she travelled virtually each winter for the last decade to explore, embrace, and learn the culture she enjoyed so much. And every spring and summer she turned her simple backyard into a flowery oasis where she surrounded herself with colour and beauty. Best known for her exceptional Ukrainian cooking, she hosted many a holiday dinner for family and friends. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity at 1175 Main St. Funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Cathedral with Rev. Father Gene Maximiuk officiating. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. A special thank you to Dr. Hiebert, and the exceptional staff at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Your team makes a very difficult time a lot easier to cope. To sign the book of condolence please go to www.knyshfuneralchapel.com Vichnaya Pamyat
