After graduating as a Registered Nurse in Dayton, Ohio during the Second World War, she met and fell in love with Henry, her sister-in-law Angele's brother, marrying him in 1949. They lived for several years in Catherine's hometown of Logansport, Indiana, before returning to Winnipeg in 1953, and settling in St. Vital to raise their five children. Catherine was a gifted nurse, lovingly tending to patients in the Intensive Care unit, and later 6A Urology at St. Boniface General Hospital until her retirement in 1986. Previously, she had briefly taught bedside manner at their School of Nursing in the late 1960s, and served as head nurse on a children's ward at St. Amant Centre for a number of years in the 1970s. She was active in the Catholic Women's League at Christ the King parish, and sang for many years with the St. Boniface Diocesan Choir. Catherine was renowned for her crystalline soprano voice, especially her beautiful rendering of Ave Maria at numerous weddings. Catherine was a devoted mother and grandmother, and friend to many in her community. A champion of life and love, she made a lasting impression on many lives. We thank God for the many years she blessed us with her strong spirit and loving presence.
