Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEMIL KRAN Emil Kran, Morris pioneer and inspiration to many, passed away on March 5, 2010 at age 95. He was predeceased by his wife Esther (nee Regitnig) in 1983, and leaves behind his daughters Janice in Vancouver, BC and Marcia (Luis) in Geneva, Switzerland; sister Clare in Nanaimo, BC, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Lillian, Thelma, Kay, and brothers Albert, Art, Bill, and Edmund. Emil was born in Beausejour on December 7, 1914 in a small cabin, of German immigrant parents John and Albertina. He was a strong, heroic man, who left school at an early age to work on the prairies and in the woodlands during the Great Depression. He cleared bush, trained for the Canadian Forces during the Second World War, and farmed in the Red River Valley for 40 years. In 1955 he married Esther, and they built their home in Morris, where he lived until last year. Emil contributed much to the lives of Morris residents. He was one of the builders of the Lutheran Church, grew a huge garden for many years, and loved to share its bounty and his woodworking with many. He was a man of strong opinions, with a deep sense of fairness, and a great zest for passionate debates about subjects including politics. He was a fisher, a hunter, and a son of the land that he loved, and worked with his hands his whole life. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who knew and loved him. Emil will be put to rest in the Morris Cemetery after a service at the Lutheran Church of the Cross on Thursday, March 11 at 11:00 a.m. In his memory, donations may be made to the Red River Valley Lodge, or the Lutheran Church of the Cross Memorial Fund. Ray Wilkinson and family wish to acknowledge our deep respect and admiration to and for the life of Emil Kran. Emil was the Uncle of Ray, son of Emil's sister Thelma. Emil and Ray shared a love of the land and the things that could be created with one's hands, but also had a meeting of the minds regarding politics and the responsibilities of citizens. This respect for Emil was also imbued in Ray's wife, Gloria, and their children, Kevin and Vanessa. We offer our deepest sympathies to our cousins, Marcia and Janice. This may be read at the service if Janice so desires. - Posted by: Ray Wilkinson (Family) on: Mar 09, 2010
