HERMANN LINK Suddenly on March 6, 2010, Hermann Link, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather entered into eternity, his family by his side, at the St. Boniface General Hospital. Predeceased by his parents Johann and Emma, as well as siblings, Oscar, Rosl and Ludwig. Hermann is survived by his wife Alma, with whom he shared 65 wonderful years of his life, his son Klaus (Freida), daughter Margot (Richard), grandson Ronald Heese (Tarina) and granddaughter Vickie Heese, along with his great-grandchildren Taron, Ashley, Matthew and Anthony. Born August 11, 1919 in Mannheim, Germany, he immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in 1951 to provide for a better life for his family. Having a Master license in Motor Winding and Machine Building, he initially worked at Luke's Electric and then the CN Railway until he retired in 1984 at the age of 65. He and Alma then spent their winters in St. Augustine, Florida becoming active members in the German America Club and their summers at the cottage in the Pine Falls area, until their age required them to move back into the city. Hermann was a very industrious, hard working and enterprising man who had no equal when it came to hard work. In 1961 he and his good friends Albert, Irwin and Helmut purchased property in the Pine Falls area, cleared the land, built a road and their cottages with the help of their neighbours and friends in the Broadlands area, in pursuit of a dream that today is a reality for the four generations that are now living his vision. Onkel Hermann and Opa to some, had an urgency about him that translated into the words gimme that thing because he couldn't wait for others to do the work. He would rather do it himself, at his pace, which no one could match. He will be missed by all of the Farm Family and the many friends he has made throughout his life. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 9Z9. Thomson In the ParK 925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
