Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE CHEUNG October 18, 1932 - March 6, 2010 Peacefully, with family at his side, George Cheung passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital on March 6, 2010. He is survived by his wife Yin Fong; five sons, Wayne (Helen), Eric, Ian, Michael and Edward (Ping); five grandchildren, Matthew, Eric, Daniel, Landon and Matthew and two siblings, a brother and sister in China. He was predeceased by his parents and four siblings. George was born in TaiShan, Canton, China. In 1952, he immigrated to Canada in search of opportunity and worked at various jobs until he started his own business, the Great Wall Restaurant in 1962; a second restaurant, George's in Selkirk, MB in 1984 and a third restaurant, Best Wishes in 1993 before retiring in 2000. George and Yin Fong enjoyed life in Winnipeg; watching the thoroughbreds from their private box at Assiniboia Downs, playing Mah Jong with his associates in Chinatown; being co-President of the Chinese Drama Society. Over the years, George was known as a man of integrity and for his generosity to others and to the arts and cultural groups in Winnipeg. The family would like to thank the staff from various departments of the St. Boniface Hospital and Victoria Hospital for the kindness and care offered during his illness. Viewing will take place on Thursday, March 11, 2010 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (South of the Royal Canadian Mint). A celebration of George's life will take place on Friday, March 12, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. with interment and reception to follow at Glen Lawn. GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 982-7550
