MARGARET (BILLIE) LUCAS February 25, 1912 - March 6, 2010 On March 6, 2010, Billie passed away at the age of 98 years. Billie was born February 25, 1912 in Winnipeg, MB. She lived for a time, as a child, in Belfast, Ireland and in Toronto, ON as a newlywed during the Second World War, but she always returned to Winnipeg, to make her home. Billie married Albert James Lucas (Luke) on May 5, 1943. Their daughter Peggy was born in 1951. Billie shared with Luke the love of artwork, working in pastels and water colors. She enjoyed working in her garden and watching the different birds visiting the yard. Throughout her lifetime she was involved with YM-YWCA in many different capacities, but her passion was the RPPC, Retired Peoples Participaction Club at the St. Vital Y in Winnipeg. She loved teaching the classes and being with the people. The RPPC helped fill a hole in her life after Luke's death in 1985, and always held a special spot in her heart. The RPPC, a fitness program designed for senior adults, was started by Billie in 1973 and continues today. She became a valuable resource person on fitness for older adults, not only for the YMCA's across Canada, but also for all levels of government and the private and voluntary sectors. In 1989 she was welcomed into the Canadian YMCA Fellowship of Honour by the Governor General at Rideau Hall in Ottawa. In 1997 she moved to Edmonton, AB to be near her family. Billie was predeceased by her sister Doreen McKague in 1997 and her brother-in-law Walter McKague in 2002. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Peggy, son-in-law Les, granddaughter Kathleen (Ryan), niece Susan McKague and nephew Ron McKague. The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. A. Salopek, Dr. W. Wash and the staff on Rosewood at St. Joseph's Auxiliary Hospital for the excellent care and many kindnesses shown to Mom. A private Family Service will be held at a later date. Condolences may be expressed at hfsinc@telus.net First Memorial Funeral Services, (780) 433-7335 In care of arrangements
