RIKA (RIEK) WESTERVELT (VAAGS) Peacefully on March 9, 2010 at Park Manor Personal Care Home, at the age of 84 years, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother went to be with her Lord. Left to cherish her memory is her husband William, daughter Ann (Renze), sons John (Janine), Henry (Blandina), Clarence (Geraldine) and Martin (Lucy); 20 grand-children and 15 great-grandchildren. Rika is also survived by her brother Harry (Joyce), sister-in-law Sarah (Tom), brothers William (Bertha) and Adolph (Audrey). Rika was predeceased by her parents and two brothers. Born in The Netherlands in 1925, Mom and Dad immigrated to Canada in 1952 with their two oldest children and settled in the Dugald area. Mom was a devoted homemaker to her growing family and took great pleasure in the accomplishments of her children and grand-children. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and many forms of needlework. Mom was a faithful member of the Transcona Christian Reformed Church where she served willingly in a variety of roles and committees. We are grateful for the blessing and Christian example that Mom has been in our lives. As a result of her struggle with Alzheimer's Disease, Mom was a resident of Park Manor Personal Care Home for nine years. We thank the staff at Park Manor for their care and compassion shown to Mom and to our family. A Public Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 14, 2010 from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 15, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Transcona Christian Reformed Church, 131 Victoria Ave. W. Interment to follow at Transcona Cemetery.
