Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySYLVIA (VERA) BARNARD Peacefully, on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Tudor Personal Care Home in Selkirk, Sylvia Vera Barnard passed away at the age of 94 years. Vera was born in Amaranth, Manitoba on October 12, 1915 to Albert and Edith Beckett. She was the third of four children; Ralph, Edna, Vera and Raymond. On May 20, 1940 Vera married Charlie Barnard. They celebrated 66 happy years together. She was predeceased by Charlie in 2006 and her brother Ralph. She is survived by her brother Raymond; brother-in-law Gerald Barnard; sister-in-law Elaine Linklater and family and sister-in-law Olive Beckett and family. She is lovingly remembered by her nieces Kate Beckett, Carla Beckett, Rae Pecheco and nephew Garth Fair. Vera graduated from Psychiatric nursing in 1940, working at S M H Centre for several years. In 1942 she joined Abex Industries and worked as the Sales Office Manager for 38 years, retiring in 1980. In addition to her work, Vera served on the Advisory Planning Commission was a member and Chair of the Selkirk Planning Commission, a Councillor for the Town of Selkirk, President of the Business and Professional Women's Club, President of the Evening Branch of the Women's Auxiliary of Christ Church, and an active member of the Chapter G, P.E.O. Sisterhood. Vera and Charlie attended opera, Manitoba Theatre Centre, and hockey and football games. Vera and Charlie travelled extensively, before and after retirement. Summers were spent at the cottage in Petersfield. Vera collected complete opera recordings and cookbooks. As well as appreciating art, Vera enjoyed painting and quilting. Her last several years were spent at Tudor Personal Care Home. We thank the staff for their exceptional care and compassion that made her life as pleasant as possible. Vera is now reunited with Charlie in God's heavenly home. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 19 at 1:00 p.m. in the Christ Anglican Church, Selkirk, MB. Interment to follow in St. Clement's Cemetery. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
