OLGA SYLVIA SMITH (nee BAZIUK) Olga left this earth for eternal peace on March 14, 2010 and with family members at her bed side. She succumbed to cancer after a courageous battle. Olga was born at Vita, MB on March 29, 1947. Remaining to forever cherish Olga's memory are her loving husband, Steve; sons Michael and Quint (Kim). Her most precious granddaughter Madison. She was Grammies girl. Also, Jacqui Austin who was like a daughter to her. Olga leaves behind a sister, Mary Anne (John); five half sisters, one half brother and numerous extended family members. Olga will be greatly missed by Stamp and Zeus, her ever faithful canine companions. Olga began her career with the Department of Agriculture, moving on to Health and Social Development and Mary Mound Inc. She retired from the Justice Department in 2007 as a Correctional Officer with Portage Correctional Institution. Olga was a very strong willed individual. Her biggest achievement was her dream cottage at Balsam Harbour. She especially enjoyed traveling to Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Hawaii on her numerous trips. On one trip to Mexico she deeply enjoyed as her son Michael and granddaughter Madison accompanied her and Steve. Words cannot describe the look in Madison's eyes when the plane landed and she saw her first palm tree. This was priceless. A Special thank you to everyone who provided support during this difficult time, family and friends. To Dr. Maxwell and his staff at the Victoria Hospital. We extend our gratitude to Palliative Care. In keeping with Olga's wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home, Winnipeg, MB on March 19, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Eulogy will be delivered by Denis Cotter, a long time friend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to CancerCare Oncology Department, the Buhler Building, Victoria Hospital, Winnipeg, MB. I met Olga as she was my Keyworker in Marymound, we formed a close bond from there to the point where I saw her as a mother-type and not my Keyworker. I lost touch with Olga for a number of years and we then crossed paths again, I am so glad I got the chance to show this beautiful woman what an immence influence she had on me. RIP "Elizabeth Taylor" aka Olga, your memory will forever live in my heart 😢 - Posted by: Tammy Lysohirka (Friend) on: Feb 16, 2015
