KRISTJANA ZAPORZAN
Date of Passing: Mar 14, 2010
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKRISTJANA ZAPORZAN Kris passed away peacefully on March 14, 2010, at the age of 82 years. She was born Kristjana Asmundson, in Westbourne, MB, the fourth of 12 children. At age 17, she left home for Winnipeg to complete her L.P.N. training. In 1954, she married John Zaporzan in Vancouver, BC and they returned to Winnipeg in 1961. Kris worked as a nurse until her retirement in 1987. Kris was an exceptional caregiver; as a daughter, a nurse, a mother, a wife, a sister, a grandmother and friend to many. She was a devoted mother to her two boys and will be remembered by all for her kindness, patience and compassion. After the painful loss of her husband, she lived an independent and full life in her beloved Charleswood home for more than 30 years. Kris found joy and commitment as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and we know that her faith in God sustained her and gave her great comfort. It was less than a year ago when her health issues began to demand more care. She had lived at Tuxedo Villa for only two months and we thank the dedicated staff for their care and concern, as well as her many friends and family who brightened her days with their visits. Kris will be dearly missed by her sons Bill (Bernadette) and Ron (Doreen Sigurdson); her five grandsons, Mark, Tony (Rebecca), Luke, Stefan and Eric; and one great-grandson, Dreayden. Mourning her loss are her sisters, Solveig Gibson, Asta Mitchell, Clara Hadfield, Laura Zanewich, Helga Gibson, Betty (Clare) Hicks; her brothers, Harvey (Carolyn) Asmundson and Harold (Norma) Asmundson; her in-laws, Gene and Shirley Zaporzan, Walter Zaporzan, Stella Lucyk, Walter Jennings, Margaret Zaporzan, Marlene Zaporzan, Doreen London, Joe Brown; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband John in 1976, her parents, Kristbjorg and Asmundur Asmundson, brother Edward Asmundson, sisters Anna Burnell and Frances Brown; mother-in-law Jean Zaporzan; brothers-in-law Jerry Zaporzan, Bill Zaporzan, George Burnell, Paul Zanewich, Don Hadfield, Jim Mitchell, Fred Gibson and Lloyd Gibson; sisters-in-law Alice Asmundson, Mary Whitman, Olga Lenyk, Donnie Zaporzan and Victoria Jennings. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, March 19 at Neil Bardal Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg (across from Brookside Cemetery), officiated by Al Johannson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. NEIL BARDAL INC. (204) 949 - 2200 nbardal.mb.ca

How I miss our heart-to-heart talks...... Aunty Kris always gave you a thoughtful answer to anything you asked her about. She was the kindest person I have ever known. I loved her very much. She chose her words and was so encouraging. Even though we didn't see each other often, our phone conversations were deep and meaningful. We had a special bond that she showed .... with a nod or a glance. When she spoke to me I always felt worthwhile and valued. Our shared Faith from the Bible ..... was an anchor to hold on to..... in these troubled times. I was honoured to be asked to read the Family's Eulogy at her Memorial service. They will miss her very much, and we will keep them all in our thoughts and prayers because that is what she would want us to do. We all long to see her again, young and healthy, in the Paradise Earth which our Creator, Jehovah God, has promised. This was her Hope.......and the basis of her life. "Do not be amazed" Jesus said, "because the hour is coming when all those in the Memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.....to a Resurrection." (JOHN 5:28, 29). Aunty Kris was my Mother's older sibling, from a family of 12 children, and now Mom has gone to sleep, too. Soon we look forward to a happy time of reunion that awaits when ..... "God will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and Death will be no more, neither will mourning, nor outcry, nor pain be any more......the former things will have passed away.....these words are faithful and true."
