ROBERT JOHN OUGHTON With great sadness we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of our beloved Robert John Oughton. He is survived by his wife, Rose (Slatcher), of 65 years, his children, Harold, Eric (Carol), Alan (Colleen), Bruce (Tab), and daughter-in-law, Lorraine; his grandchildren, Lana, Darren, Laurie, Dale, Jason, Rick, Torie, Brette, Chad, Travis, Haley, Tyson, and his great-grandchildren Fraser, Cara, Thomas, Nicholai, Zoe, Noah, Abby, Sawyer. Also, his sisters, Helen and Jean. Dad was predeceased by Ruth and Howdy. Dad was born on November 7, 1919 in Stonewall where he grew up on the family dairy farm, and attended Stonewall school. He enlisted into the R.C.A.F. in 1939 and spent four and one half years overseas as an aeronautical mechanic in different parts of Europe and England. A week after he returned from overseas, he married Rose Slatcher on March 17, 1945 and resided on his dad's farm. In 1947 he purchased his own farm where he and Mom raised four boys. Dad's great love for animals always magnetized him to jobs in this field. He was a master of many talents - a mechanic, a quarry kiln operator, farmer, a herdsman for the Stony Mountain Penitentiary, a papermill technician and an A-I technician. And perhaps his greatest talent, a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather as well as a friend to all. He left us with a wealth of memories of love, humour, and good-naturedness that will remain with us forever. The family would like to thank the Grace Hospital staff for its compassion and expertise. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Society or the Anglican Church Ascension. A private family service will be held later this week. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.

Sorry to hear about my grandfather's passing. I have heard some wonderful stories about him and see so much of my father (Tom) in his photos. I only wish that I could have had the opportunity to meet him in person. - Posted by: Michael Sutherland (Family) on: Mar 18, 2010
