EMIL SOMMERFELD Peacefully, on Monday, March 15, 2010, at the Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Emil Sommerfeld, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at the age of 95. Emil was predeceased by his wife Agnes in 1999. He leaves to mourn and cherish his memory his daughter, Laura Lowry, son Harry and wife Wendy, son Gerhard and wife JoAnne, and son Wally and wife Doreen, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, relatives in Germany, U.S.A. and Western Canada, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a circle of friends. Emil was born on February 6, 1915 in Tamaszow, Poland and married Agnes in 1943. In 1949, Emil and his family emigrated to Canada from Germany, eventually settling in Winnipeg in 1950. As a husband and father, Emil took the responsibility of providing for his family very seriously. His many years of woodworking and construction knowledge live on in the vocation and avocations of his children and others who were associated with him in the construction and cabinetmaking industries. Dad mellowed as a grandfather and his contacts with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren are cherished. Viewing will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2010 from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St. Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 19, 2010 at 1:00 p.m., at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 65 Walnut at Wolseley in Winnipeg. Interment to follow at Transcona Cemetery, 5200 Dugald Rd., just inside the Perimeter Highway. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Rose and the staff at Riverview Health Centre for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, memorial donations may be made to the Riverview Health Centre Foundation, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, R3L 2P4
