LORRAINE ANNA VIGFUSSON (nee MAGNUSSON) May 16, 1951 - March 16, 2010 Peacefully on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at the E. M. Crowe Memorial Hospital, our Mom and best friend passed away after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She leaves to mourn her loving children Bruce (Celia) Vigfusson, Dodie (Martin) Bieri, Chayna (Andrew) Lowe and Sturn (Lisa) Vigfusson. She also leaves to mourn her very special grandsons Colt, Juerg and Graidie, her sisters Juno (Gar) Webb, Vivian Jeffery (Lynn), Yvonne Leirdahl and brother-in-law Kris (Cindy) Vigfusson, sister-in-law Diane Magnusson, her father-in-law Kris Vigfusson along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Mom went to heaven to join Dad. She was predeceased by Dad in 1979, her parents Ed and Helga Magnusson, mother-in-law Dora Vigfusson, brother Tom Magnusson, brother Carl and Norma Magnusson, sister Eleanor and Russ Hanslip and brother-in-law Oli Leirdahl. She was also predeceased by two special nieces Valarie Dokken and Bonnie Carrette. Mom was born May 16, 1951 at the E. M. Crowe Memorial Hospital. She grew up and went to school in Lundar, MB. She made many lifelong friends and was always the life of the party. She was always there for those she cared about and was always willing to help when someone was in need. Mom became a widow at the young age of 28 and raised four kids on her own. Her strong will and pride were passed on in her children. She was proud of each of her children's accomplishments in life and loved to spend time with each of them. Mom valued all family and friends and enjoyed many nights of cards, dice or board games. She was a whiz at scrabble, crosswords and Sudoku. Amma enjoyed spending time with each of her grandsons whether it was her trips to Winnipeg with Colt and their conversations about anything and everything, to cruising down the road with Juergi to look at cattle or later cruising around with Graidie on her lap in her chair. She was so very proud of all of them. Mom worked in the homecare field and became actively involved in the M.G.E.U. She was a firm believer in the principles of the union and became a support to many in the field. She loved attending conferences and meetings with her sisters and brothers . Mom was unable to continue active union work due to an injury but still received many calls for advice and support. We would like to send a very special thank you to the staff at Riverview Health Centre 4E Wing for giving Mom back her confidence and independence last summer. We would also like to thank the homecare staff from Winnipeg and Lundar for allowing Mom the opportunity to be at home and, last but not least, to Dr. Burnett and staff at the E. M. Crowe Memorial Hospital for their care in Mom's last few days. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the Lundar Lutheran Church with Pastor Terry Throndson officiating. Service will conclude at the hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lundar Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 216, Lundar, MB R0C 1Y0 or to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc., 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or to a charity of one's choice. Life's journey is not to arrive at the gates safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting.... Holy Cow....What a Ride!
