Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE E. (JOE) BAMPTON Peacefully, on Thursday, March 18, 2010, Joe passed away at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home at 89 years of age. Joe is survived and will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Penny, children Barry (Penny), Glenn, and Craig (Monique), grandchildren Alyssa (Paul), Nicole (Sam), Brooke, Robin (Jim), and Chris, great-grandchildren Nikki, Camen, Sterling and Piper, brother-in-law James (Flora), nieces Jill (Dino) and Carol (Ken) and their families, as well as many friends. Joe was predeceased by his sister Malou and daughter-in-law Diane. Joe was born in Nancy, France, coming to Canada at a young age and grew up in Montreal. He joined the Navy in 1940, serving as a telegrapher on a Corvette and then as an officer on motor torpedo boats in the English Channel from 1944 to 1945. Joe worked for Canadian Celanese, transferring to Winnipeg in 1956. Joe was an avid athlete his entire life excelling in many sports. He enjoyed 40 years at the family cottage at West Hawk Lake. After retirement Joe spent 20 years winter vacationing in Florida. Joe's family would like to thank the staff at St. Norbert Personal Care Home, especially Tony, Sandy, Barbara and Mandi, for their compassionate care and in making Joe's last days comfortable. A Celebration of Joe's life will be held on Wednesday, March 24 at Neil Bardal Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery) at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
