Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMAY HELENA HAWKINS Sadly, May left us too soon on March 18, 2010. Her three daughters, Susan (Joe), Janice, and Tracy as well as her grandchildren Elizabeth, Heather, and Kyle will greatly miss her. May was predeceased by her parents Frank and Rhoda Arnold, and husband Orion. An only child, May was born December 30, 1924 in Ninette, MB. She attended Ninette School and was active in sports and music, competing for many years in piano and voice in the local arts festival. At 17 she moved to Winnipeg to attend Angus Business College and later worked for several years at MacDonald Brothers and Standard Aero. After raising her three daughters, she had a second successful career, first with the Hudson Bay Company and later with the Province of Manitoba, Department of Income Security, retiring in 1989. May filled her retirement years socializing with friends and family and traveling. Weekends were often spent dancing the night away at her local Legion where she had no shortage of partners. Wherever she went, Vegas, Europe, Hawaii or Mexico, May indulged her favourite pastime - shopping. Her flare for fashion and instinct for the latest style trends are legendary. Her other two great passions were football and curling. She was a steadfast and enthusiastic supporter of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers all her life even though they often broke her heart. In her later years, she followed the fortunes of her guys and girls on the curling rink with an intensity and fervour that belied her age. Small in stature but large in life, May always wore her heart on her sleeve . She was outspoken and frank in both her likes and dislikes. You always knew where you stood with May. Her heart, so full of passion and love of life, was May's defining characteristic. In her final years she devoted all her love and care to family, friends and especially her beloved cat Frisky, whom she says kept her young. A memorial service celebrating May's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 26, 2010 at Neil Bardal Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Ave. across from Brookside Cemetery. NEIL BARDAL INC.
