CHARLES ALBERT BALCAEN After a courageous battle with cancer, Charlie passed away March 24, 2010 with his wife, two sons and daughter at his side. Charlie will be forever loved and cherished by his wife of 58 years, Lois; sons Larry (Terri lynne), Teddy (Joan) and daughter Charlene (Keith); grandchildren Dawnanne (Kyle), Christy (Chuck), Cody and Cory; great-grandchild Kobe; also step-grandchildren Sandra, Dennis (Anna and boys), Gary and his daughter, Stephanie (Shane and children), Ashley (Tania and children) and Matt. He also will be deeply missed by his buddy and partner in crime John. Charlie was born and raised in Selkirk where he filled his life with work, family, friends and fun. His feisty spirit and independence will sadly be missed by many. Charlie loved his family and was an excellent husband, great father, wonderful grandfather and a true friend to many. He touched many lives in his 78 years. Charlie never sat idle, always on the go doing whatever and who knows what. He owned and operated Balcaen and Sons Plumbing and Heating and then after retiring , worked at the Betel Home. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and times spent at the cottage, which later became his home. A memorial mass will be held on Monday, March 29 at 10:00 a.m. in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, Selkirk with Fr. Dado Parrenas and Fr. Art Seaman co-officiating. Thank you to the wonderful staff on the Surgery Ward in Selkirk for their care and compassion.
