EILEEN ELSIE CHALE On Thursday, March 25, 2010, at 86 years of age, with loving family and caregivers by her side, Eileen peacefully left this life. Eileen was born July 15, 1923 in Piney, MB, later relocating to Winnipeg with her family in her teens. She was the second of four children born to William and Edith Holden. Eileen met her one true love, Roland (Rolly) Chale while visiting her cousin who was boarding with Rolly's family. She and Rolly were married March 21, 1944, had eight children. When Eileen's youngest child was four, Mom reentered the workforce and continued to work at Eatons for many years. Eileen enjoyed her job and the people she worked with. She juggled running a busy house, raising her family, working and caring for grandparents and parents. She was a very self-less person, very kind and loving. She was happiest surrounded by her family. She loved to spend time in her gardens, which could rival any of those pictured in gardening magazines. She was a gracious lady, always dressed with style and class and carried herself with dignity. She loved music, games, was an avid reader and kept herself up-to-date with what was happening in the world. She was a devoted Catholic and steadfastly believed in the power of prayer. To the end she always had a very long list of people she included in her prayers. She was an amazing cook; her blueberry pie was legendary and would elicit a chorus of mmms from her kids and much licking of plates. She was her children's biggest fan; always supportive, celebrating joys and praying for challenges. She was Mom-Mom to her brood of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was well loved by all of us she leaves behind. Eileen and Rolly enjoyed many good years together celebrating 42 years of marriage when Rolly passed away in 1986. Mom was only 62 when she was widowed but she admirably adjusted to being on her own with dignity and independence. She moved to Kirchoff Gardens where she had many dear friends, bought herself a new car and drove herself wherever she wanted to go including the three hour trip to her summer home in Sioux Narrows, ON. She loved spending summers with all her family at that beautiful spot on Lake of The Woods. She traveled over a dozen times to Hawaii and enjoyed trips to Arizona, Calgary, Toronto and the East Coast with family. Eileen suffered a stroke six years ago and as a result life changed drastically but as usual, Eileen adjusted to whatever life offered her. She developed a dry wit and would come up with some hilarious one-liners when you'd least expect it. She truly loved a good laugh. For the last five years she has resided at Kin Place Personal Care Home in Oakbank, MB. Eileen's family would like to take this opportunity to express our sincerest gratitude to the wonderful staff and volunteers for their tremendous warmth, compassion and caring. Too many to mention by name; we simply cannot thank you enough and are forever grateful to you all. Eileen leaves to cherish her memory daughters: Sharon and husband Willie Bee, Janice and husband Ed Bettens, Nancy and husband Alan Isfeld, Kathy and husband Roger Mireault, Susan (Susie) and husband Tom Jeroski, and sons: Paul and wife Doreen, Rick and wife Barb, Dave and wife Marilyn, 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren (too many to mention by name). She also leaves her sister Marj and brother-in-law John, brother Les and sister-in-law Edythe, sister-in-law Eileen, Rolly's two brothers and three sisters and their families plus numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends. A service to celebrate Eileen's life will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home, #1 Hwy. E. with Father Kevin Bettens officiating. Luncheon reception at Niakwa Country Club, 620 Niakwa Road immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Eileen's memory may be made to Kin Place Personal Care Home Recreation Department (444-2004), the Heart and Stroke Foundation or CancerCare. Rest in peace and comfort, our dear sweet Mom. We love you and will hold you in our hearts always.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • To Janice Condolences to you and your family on the loss of your Mom. I have fond warm memories of the many times your Mom spoke to me as a youth growing up in the neighborhood and later as a young adult . She was always interested and engaging. She was a beautiful person. Sincerely, Carolyn Maydonik (Wyndels) - Posted by: Carolyn Maydonik (Family) on: Mar 27, 2010
