Date of Passing: Mar 24, 2010
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM RICHARD It is with deep sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of William Richard, March 24, 2010 at St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 81. William will be lovingly remembered by his wife Ruby Richard (Guiboche), seven children, Frank Phripp (Selkirk, Manitoba), Arnold Phripp (Calgary, Alberta), Shelley Richard (San Clemente, California), Trymer Richard (Thompson, Manitoba), Wanda Richard (Winnipeg, Manitoba), Marcy Richard (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Bonnie Richard (Thompson, Manitoba). William will also be remembered by his seven grandchildren Dawn Waud, Jaime Richard, Jennifer Hysert, Charlene Richard, Frank Phripp, Tyler Perreaux and Zachariah Johnston, and his five great-grandchildren Avery, Emma and Davis Waud, Jazmin and Mikey Hysert. He also had many brothers and sisters and extended family too numerous to mention and we will all miss him greatly. William was predeceased by his first-born grandchild Dana Anderson, who succumbed to a lifelong illness with Cystic Fibrosis in 1996, his father, mother and several brothers and sisters. William was born and grew up in Camperville, Manitoba, where he lived until he felt the need to move on so to speak. He and one of his brothers, Maurice, briefly ventured to Canada's north to work just west of Yellowknife, NWT, for a short period of time, and continued on to a short stint in Churchill, Manitoba. William settled in Thompson, Manitoba in 1962 and worked for Inco until his retirement in 1986. During his time in Thompson, William was an avid bowler, dart and pool player (considered himself somewhat of a shark, if he didn't say so himself!). In his early retirement in Thompson, he began his love affair with the game of golf. One of his greatest adventures was his first golf trip with buddy Ron Nadeau, when they flew to Los Angeles, rented a motor home and toured around California to golf on as many courses as they could over a three week period. He had so much fun on his first golfing trip, he felt the need to travel and golf again, this time with brother Maurice. They toured Florida for another three week golf trip. These trips were special to dad and were some of his most treasured memories. William and Ruby continued their retirement in Brandon in 1988 where he became active in many community service organizations, the Rotary and Lions Clubs of Brandon as well as the Catholic Church in Brandon's east end. Over the years he was an active member of many of Brandon's golf clubs, as he liked to move around, that's just the kind of guy he was. Another enjoyment of William's ongoing retirement was his regular attendance at Winnipeg Goldeye Games, he loved baseball. Another of his daily routines was to hang out daily in Centre Court of Portage Place. From there he would venture home to watch Y R and the daily news, he loved the stimulation of a good conversation on politics and current events. We must acknowledge the staff of fourth floor wing and 7ASouth at St. Boniface Hospital, where compassion was demonstrated daily by the staff and for that we are forever grateful. A Viewing will take place on Monday, March 29, 2010, from 7:00 9:00 p.m., with the Celebration of William's life to take place on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at 2:00 p.m., events to take place at Thomson In the Park , 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg.
