JOHN MASON October 2, 1913 - March 23, 2010 It is with great sadness our family announces the passing of John Allen Mason at the age of 96. John passed away at the Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home with family at his side on Tuesday, March 23, 2010. John leaves to mourn his wife Rose; sons Robert (Jennifer), Allan (Heather) and Donald; grandchildren Kim (Duane), Todd (Carla), Chris (Paulette), Mike (Trish) and seven great-granddaughters. John married Rose in 1941 and they raised their three boys in the West End of Winnipeg. He started working at Dents English Bacon Company prior to the Second World War and at the end of the war he returned to Dents. He later became part owner of Dents which became Dents Processors/HMS Foods. He retired from the company at the age of 71. John had a lifetime love of sports. In his early adult years, he played softball, bowled and curled. We remember the encouragement he gave to his sons to do their best at football and baseball. We also remember his love of listening on the radio and later watching television of the World Series, Bomber games and Friday Night boxing. After many years of renting cottages at Laclu and in the Whiteshell, he was able to buy his own cottage in 1970 at Lake Brereton where he and Rose enjoyed many summers with their family. John was very fortunate to be able to live the last four years with his wife in the Bethania Personal Care Home. At this time we would like to thank all the staff at Bethania for the excellent care they gave to John during the last four years and in making his last days as comfortable as possible. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
