KENNETH ARNOLD GOLDEN Peacefully, in the early morning of March 27, 2010, Kenneth Arnold Golden passed away at the age of 65. Ken leaves to mourn his wife Norma and his daughter Kathy, who presently resides in Seattle. He also leaves to mourn his sisters Julia in Winnipeg, Pat in Thompson, Manitoba, and Joy in British Columbia, and his brothers, James (Liz), Allan (Sharan), and Thomas (Linda) in Winnipeg. Ken also left many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Ken loved to take annual cruises with his friends and family and was planning to leave shortly for a visit with Kathy in Seattle. Ken was born in Winnipeg on September 18, 1944. He attended Brooklands School, Cecil Rhodes School, Strathcona School, Montcalm School and Hugh John Macdonald School. He attended army cadets at McGregor Armories and was an accomplished swimmer. Ken came from a large family and worked hard all of his life. He started St. Vital Transfer when he was nineteen years old. He then formed Imperial Towing and Eastern Messenger before venturing into the construction industry. He worked with Steel Brothers and Winroc before forming Provincial Drywall Supply. After retiring from the construction industry, Ken worked with his brother Allan and ran the St. Vital Hotel and the Transcona Country Club. Ken was a kind, gentle and giving man who lived for his family and his friends. When asked why he only had one child, Kathy, he would say that after having one perfect child, he didn't need any more. Kathy was the pride and joy of his life. Ken was always there for anyone who needed him. He turned no one away. He had no enemies and counted everyone as his friend. His generosity knew no bounds. He had time for everyone. Ken loved attending Springs of Living Waters Church. He joined the church while hosting their services at the Transcona Country Club. Ken was predeceased by his father James Lawrence Golden, a career Canadian soldier, in 1950, by his mother, Kathleen Adele Golden, in 1990, by his sister Helen Marie in 1977, and by his brothers, Michael Timothy in 1981 and Ronald Lawrence in 1985. Ken also enjoyed his daily trips to the Refit Centre where he shared fellowship with friends. Ken was actively involved in the Transcona Lions Club from 1994. He served as President and Zone Chairman. He was particularly happy to have supported the Riverside Lions Alzheimer facility in St. Vital, and, at the time of his demise, he was actively involved in planning a new seniors housing facility to be built at the Transcona Country Club. Ken worked tirelessly to help start the Golden Retriever Seniors Transportation Service, including driving the first buses. Anyone who knew Ken also knew how special he was. His support and concern for others was an example for all to follow. He touched so much and so many with his unique gift that he will live on in each of us forever. Ken loved to share a joke. To him there was no such thing as a stranger. The family has consented to the donation of Ken's organs so that Ken may continue to live on giving his gift to others. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Transcona Lions Club, 2070 Dugald Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Pallbearers will be: Ron Jones, Gino Allegro, Ed Jarema, Mitch Lavallee, Brock Cordes and Peter Genakes. Celebration of Ken's life at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Springs of Living Waters Church, 725 Lagimodiere Boulevard, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Neil Bardal Inc. will provide services. Private family burial to follow.

  • I only met Ken a few weeks ago at the RehFit Centre and in that short time he left a big impression. His smiling face and friendly conversation was a delight - especially at 6:30 in the morning. A wonderful way to start the day! To his family - I am so sorry for your loss. He will be missed by many. - Posted by: Annitta Stenning (Acquaintance) on: Mar 31, 2010
