KEN KRUKEWICH Ken Krukewich was born March 9, 1950, son of the late Leo and Lil Krukewich. He grew up in Sandy Lake, MB graduating from high school at the age of 17 and left to fulfill his childhood dream of working for the Space Program. Ken received his Bachelor of Science Honours Physics degree at University of Manitoba and worked for SED as a Space Systems Engineer and Project Manager in Saskatoon including work on the Communication Technology Satellite. He then worked for the Canadian Space Agency for 26 years and was sent to NASA as part of a team of 8 young engineers to define Canada's role in the early developments of the International Space Station working with engineers from Russia, Japan and USA at Johnston Space Center, Houston TX. Ken did vast work on many space shuttles, satellites and trained astronauts and space engineers. He was the lead engineer sent from Canada to NASA in the redesigning of the Space Station in 1997. He ended his career working for National Defence in Space Surveillance. Ken lived a full adventurous life. He loved skiing, swimming, canoeing and travelled the world on many work and scuba diving trips. He loved sharing his scientific knowledge with young people helping many of them explore the universe and made a huge difference in many people's lives. A very dedicated father and grandfather, Ken is ever loved and sadly missed by his daughters, Kim (Jonathan), Jackie (Dan), grandchildren, Nathan and Anne-Sophie; sister, Audrey (Dennis) Hedley, Amanda (Ryan), Derek, and Chantel; brother Alvin (Leanne) Krukewich, Amber and Laura; numerous family and many friends from all over the world. He was especially close to his friends from Sandy Lake. Ken left us on November 20, 2009 in Ottawa. A memorial service will be held in Sandy Lake MB at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church on April 24, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. John Sianchuk officiating. May God keep him in His eternal care. Ken, you have finally reached the stars!
