KRISTIN O. STEPHENSEN Kristin O. Stephensen, age 90, of Winnipeg, passed away Friday, March 26, 2010 at her son's residence in Columbus, OH. She was born July 12, 1919 in Churchbridge, SK, daughter of the late Mrs. Gudny Jenny Melsted. After graduating from St. James Collegiate, she attended business college and became a bookkeeper with the Canadian Income Tax, helping to support her family during the late depression and war years. She married Albert H. Stephensen in 1955 and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. After raising her family, Kristin became involved in charitable work through the Jon Sigurdson Chapter I.O.D.E., developing a scholarship fund for music students and raising money to train pilot dogs. Kristin was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Albert in June, 2009; her devoted and evercaring brother, Fred Melsted and her dear sister-in-law, Helen Abbott. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Sigurdur (Sig), a neurosurgeon, and Mary Stephensen; grandchildren, Sam and Kristin Stephensen, all of Columbus. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Phyllis Melsted and niece, Linda Melsted of Winnipeg, both of whom always provided undying love and support, helping in so many ways over the years; her constant and unwavering brother-in-law and friend, Al Abbott and her niece Lisa Abbott, both of Tacoma, WA; and her cousin, Frank Reynolds, an actuary, of Waterloo, ON. She was also blessed by the friendship and prayers of Ed and Betty Held, her daughter-in-law's parents. During her last days, Kristin lived with her son's family under the loving care of her daughter-in-law, Mary, her son and her grandchildren. Kristin was a kind and gentle woman, who had a beautiful smile. She was an accomplished pianist, who also enjoyed swimming, travelling, playing bridge and her many friendships in the I.O.D.E. and elsewhere. Most importantly, she was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, sister-in-law, mother, aunt, and grandmother. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Jon Sigurdson Chapter I.O.D.E.
