Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySTEPHEN JOHN KLYM 1913 2010 On April 2, 2010, Stephen Klym passed away at the age of 97 years. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary; sister Jessie; and brothers, William and Thomas. He is survived by his son William (Nancy); two grandchildren, Michael (Kristi) and Jacqueline (Nathan); and two great-grandchildren, Cohen and Henry, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was born in Garland, Manitoba and received his elementary and secondary education in Dauphin. He then attended the University of Manitoba for one year. This was followed by teacher training at Dauphin Normal School. He obtained his B.A., B.Ed. and most of his M.Ed. degrees by attending summer classes at the University of Manitoba. He began his teaching career in Pine River in 1933 where he taught for four years. In 1937, he joined the Flin Flon School staff where he remained for 23 years. During this time he was principal of several elementary schools, Hudson Junior High School and Vice-Principal of Flin Flon Collegiate. In Steve's early years in Flin Flon he worked with many youth groups. He was supervisor of PeeWee hockey and helped the growth of the Boy Scouts and Cubs. He was in charge of arranging a weekly school program broadcast over radio station CFAR, Flin Flon. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks and served as Exalted Ruler of the Flin Flon Lodge. Steve served four years in the R.C.A.F. as an Instrument Link Trainer Instructor. He has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion since 1946. In 1960, he was appointed to the department of Education as a School Inspector and was assigned to Pelly Trail School Division where he took up residence in Russell. In 1965, he was transferred to the School Inspector's Staff in Winnipeg where he worked until his retirement in 1975. The family would like to thank the staff and residents of the Wellington, his home for 19 years, for all their kindness and friendship and the staff at Tuxedo Villa who were so helpful and considerate. A celebration of Steve's life will be held at The Wellington, 3060 Grant Avenue on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations may be made to the CNIB, 1080 Portage Avenue (204) 774-5421 or Scouts Canada, 395 Stafford Street (204) 786-6661.
