Date of Passing: Apr 01, 2010
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOREEN LOWRY A path that started on September 9, 1924 in Moose Jaw, SK, lead to Winnipeg in 1935, and meandered through the streets of the West End, West Kildonan, Norwood and St. Vital has come to an end after 85 years. Doreen passed away peacefully with her family at her side on April 1, 2010 at St. Boniface Hospital. Predeceased by her husband George in 2001, she is survived by her children: Keith (Ingeborg), Patty Best (Craig), Janice Smith (Bruce); grandchildren, Ina, Lindsay (Chris), Scott, Brandyn and Rebecca; nieces Bonnie Dyson and Lynda Michalchuk, and their children Gary and Michelle. Following graduation from Daniel Mac, Mom had an early career at Canada Packers and Manitoba Pool Elevators where she was to meet her future husband. Married in 1948, over the next years her major focus was her family. Once her children were grown, she returned to work part time at The Bay. Much of her spare time was spent volunteering, both as a travel escort at M.S.O.S. and in various capacities with the C.N.I.B. A long time member of Norwood United Church, Mom was involved with the U.C.W. as well as Pastoral Care. Amongst her favourite pastimes were shopping, listening to music, dancing, knitting and sewing, genealogy and holidays throughout the world, especially to her beloved Detroit Lakes. But above all, Mom just loved spending time with family (most importantly her grandchildren of whom she was extremely proud) and the many friends she collected along the way. Family, friends and neighbours will gather to celebrate her life on April 8, at 2:00 p.m. at the Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Humane Society, or C.J.N.U., the Nostalgia Broadcasting Cooperative, Box 2282, Station Main, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4A6. You will always be remembered as a strong, loving woman . GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 982-7550
