Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNETTE LOUISE TREBLE September 29, 1932 - March 31, 2010 It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Annette Louise Treble on March 31, 2010 at Rock Lake Hospital, Crystal City, MB. Annette is survived by sister-in-law Beverley Treble (Robinson), niece Margaret (Gaetane), nephews, Bill (Laurie), David (Susie), Douglas (Carrie); great-nieces and nephews, Courtney and Lauren; Zachary and Sofie; Jamie and Mya; many cousins, and her feline companion Tovey. Annette was predeceased by her grandparents, Lewis James Treble and Jane Diment Treble, The Rev. Joseph Hunter and Annette Louisa (Carnie) Hunter; parents, Cecil Diment Treble and Christina (Ina) Durham Hunter Treble; brother James Hunter Treble. Annette was born September 29, 1932 in Crystal City, MB. After receiving a B.A. in 1953 from the University of Manitoba she worked as a reporter for the Winnipeg Tribune. The summer of 1955 began a life-long love of travel. She joined the Canadian Women's Press Club tour of Europe, which included an audience with Pope Pius XII in the Vatican. This two year working holiday included pauses at the Olympic Games in Melbourne, and an all-Japanese local bus trip to Hiroshima, where she wandered through some of the devastation wrecked by the first atomic bomb. When the tour returned to London, Annette stayed and joined one of her Scottish cousins in the typing pool of the National Coal Board. The office overlooked the gardens of Buckingham Palace and many lunch hours were spent outside the palace gates hoping for a glimpse of royalty never dreaming that in July 1978 she would enter those gates with her Mother and 15 year old niece, Margaret, to receive an M.B.E. (Member, Order of the British Empire) from Queen Elizabeth II. By 1958 the British government was opening an Information Office in Winnipeg and Annette was their first employee, a clerk. Later in 1966, Annette became the first Canadian appointed to the position of Information Officer. The office gradually combined trade, information, and consular work into a British Consulate, then down-sized until it closed in January 1980. As Information-Consular Officer, Annette enjoyed travelling around Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and northwestern Ontario; to the British High Commission in Ottawa, and to London on several orientation courses. The most fun was producing a weekly half-hour film program, Britain on Parade , shown weekly for 18 years on the Winnipeg cable stations. This job for the British government continued after the office closed, until July 1990. During the 1980s Annette attended Red River Community College and took diploma courses in Library Technology, Creative Communications, and Applied Photography, before returning home at Christmas 1986 to stay with her Mother. A life-long member of the Liberal Party, Annette attended the Liberal Leadership convention in Ottawa, in the summer of 1968, where Trudeau was elected head of the Liberal Party. Her retirement years were spent commuting to Winnipeg, searching book stores and garage sales for additions to her Agatha Christie collection, volunteering in libraries, and travelling. Annette travelled as often as she could and took many overseas trips with her mother and one memorable trip with her dear friend Marie to take a course at St. Andrews University in Scotland. Annette was a lifelong member of the United Church of Canada, loved traditional church music and enjoyed singing with the Church choir. She was also a member of the Crocus Curling Club; University Women's Club and Friends of Ralph Connor House; and the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority Alumnae. Memories of time spent at Rock Lake in her childhood as well as in recent years were cherished by Annette and her family. Family and friends were important to Annette and she always remembered to send cards on special occasions. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 9, at 2:00 p.m., at the Crystal City United Church, with Emily Lovell officiating. Interment to follow at Crystal City Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Woelk of Boundary Trails Hospital, Dr. Bester and all the staff of Rock Lake Hospital for their support and care.
