STELLA ZACHARUK February 20, 1923 - April 10, 2010 Peacefully, with Paul her loving husband and family at her side, Stella Zacharuk passed away at the age of 87 on Saturday, April 10, 2010, at Fred Douglas Lodge Personal Care Home. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband Paul, nephew Michael (Hazel), niece Jeanette (Ken) and their families, and sister-in-law Julia, brother-in-law Alex (Dorothy), sister-in-law Marcie and their families. She is predeceased by her parents (Nicola and Roszalia); daughter Rose; brother Walter; brothers-in-law, Bill, Henry and Jim; sisters-in-law, Pauline and Lena. She was born in Rosenburg, Manitoba on February 20, 1923. At an early age she decided to move to Winnipeg where she found employment at Eaton's. Always creative and talented in culinary skills, Stella worked in the store's cake decorating department. She loved nature and the outdoors and in retirement enjoyed time spent at their trailer where she tended to her vegetable and flower gardens, fed the birds and especially enjoyed blueberry picking. Trips back to the family homestead in the summertime were always enjoyable and meant a lot to her. A pillar of strength and inspiration to all, Stella will be remembered for her wit and sense of humour and gentle caring nature. She will be dearly missed. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Fred Douglas Lodge for the compassionate care, the respect and dignity they provided to Stella during her brief stay. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 16, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home, 1 Green Acres Lane at Hwy. #1. Interment to follow at Green Acres Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stella's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6 or a charity of your choice.
