ELEANOR (ELIE) JOBIN It is with great sadness that we announce Elie's peaceful passing, after losing her 18 month battle with cancer on April 12, 2010. Born Eleanor Margaret Spencer on December 6, 1946, Elie was the beloved wife of Dave, the adored mother of Cameron, Kari and Paul, and a loving grandma to Kristen, Nicholas, Bradon, Cody, William and Andrew. Elie was predeceased by her mother, Mary Ahronson (Spencer) and her father Jim Spencer. Elie felt that the essence of one's character can be seen by how one treats those who are weak or vulnerable. This principle was reflected in her professional and volunteer commitments. She will be remembered for her years of dedication to Licensed Practical Nursing, Disability Appeals, the Christ the King School Board, Development and Peace, St. Paul's High School Board, St. Mary's Academy, and the Liberal Party of Manitoba. At Elie's request, honorary pallbearers are Mary Barrett, Jocelyn Striemer, Doreen Preston, John Preston, Claudia Sarbit, Sam Sarbit, Dan Janssens, Lorraine Janssens, Joanne Riddell, Lisa Johnston, Lyle Smordin, Mohinder Singh, Rey Pagtakhan, Ed Stevenson, Joan Robson, Suzanna Hyrich, Heather Mackareth, Carol Brown, Karl Carnegie, and Richard Davis. Elie expressed deep gratitude for her children and grandchildren and for her dear friends whom she considered to be extensions of her family. Shortly before her passing she wrote that she felt her friends and family were blessings who have touched my life in a positive way and have been a significant source of influence and support throughout my journey. The world is poorer for her passing, but richer for having had her in it. Our time with Mom was far too short, but her memory, laughter, and lust for life will live forever in our hearts. At Elie's request, there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada are warmly welcomed and appreciated. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 16, 2010 at St. Timothy's Parish, 135 John Forsyth Road; celebrant Fr. Phil Daley. Reception to follow. Eleanor means light, one who will do what she can for others; someone who can be very spunky; is in control of herself; is thoughtful and wise; is swift to help others; her eyes twinkle with laughter; is clever, enterprising and adventurous; she can climb the highest mountain.
