MARION DOCTOROFF May 15, 1907 - April 17, 2010 Marion was born during what she later always referred to as a raging blizzard . She departed this world peacefully, at almost 103 years at the Simkin Centre on Saturday, April 17. In 1930 Marion married Sam Doctoroff, a young school teacher and together they raised three children. Sam passed away in 1978. Marion, blessed with extraordinary good health, a keen mind, and an outgoing personality was an active and engaged person all her life. She served as the matriarch of our family. She was a dedicated volunteer with the School Masters Wives' Association, Jewish Women's Musical Club and the Order of the Eastern Star. She wintered in Pine-to-Palm, Weslaco, Texas for over 30 years. It is interesting to note that Marion always attributed her longevity to eating a banana a day. As well, up until only a few weeks ago her diet consisted mainly of chocolate and ice-cream. She took absolutely no medication or vitamins of any kind. Marion is survived by her three children - Maxine Geller (Harvey Fairman), Mark Doctoroff (Francoise LaCasse) and Linda Doctoroff; grandchildren: Karen Solomon, Peter Geller (Pam Logan), Fern Doctoroff (Steffan Hammonds), Jill Doctoroff (Mike Engelsjord), Ben Isitt (Melissa Moroz); great-grandchildren: Jonathan and Micaela Solomon, Alexander and Philip Geller, Hailey and Oliver Hammonds and Aviva Isitt and special niece Reva Henriques. In addition to her husband, Marion was predeceased by son-in-law, Manly Geller in 1987, granddaughter Wendy Geller in 1996, and her siblings Gordon Kruger, Lil Rosenthal and Rod Kruger. The family wishes to thank Lily Melman and Raya Karelov, her companions during the past five years. Their exceptional care and commitment to Mom is very much appreciated. We also wish to acknowledge the outstanding attention and respect which all the staff on Weinberg Two at the Simkin Centre continually demonstrated to Mom. As expressions of sympathy if friends and family so wish, donations may be made to the Samuel H. and Marion Doctoroff Scholarship Fund at The Winnipeg Foundation, 1350 - One Lombard Place, Winnipeg, MB, R3B 0X3. Her funeral service will be held at the Simkin Centre, 1 Falcon Ridge Drive on Thursday, April 22 and 10:00 a.m. Shiva will take place at 1776 Mathers Avenue from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. from Friday, April 23 to Sunday, April 25.
