Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKRISTJAN BJORGVIN JOHANNESSON December 22, 1925 April 19, 2010 It is with great sadness, family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father, afi and láng afi Kris, on April 19, 2010 at the Gimli Hospital with family by his side. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Begga of 60 years; sons Barry (Elaine), Kevin (Wendy), and Jeff; daughter Jodine (Glenn); grandchildren Keith (Amanda), Kristopher (Stormy), Jody (Kevin), Jason (Kelly), Brian (Tabby), Cheryl, Trevor, Taylor and Krista; great-grandchildren Wayde, Kassie, Troy, Thorin, Kiorra, Ostyn, Tytan, Jenna, Brycen, and Myla. Also survived by sisters Dorothy and Sella and their families; sisters-in-law Beatrice, Darlene (Elerd), Sigga, Bernice (Stoney), Ellen (Helgi), and Mary; brother-in-law Raymond and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Sturlaugur and Gudleif; parents-in-law Elli and Clara Einarson (stepfather-in-law Mundi Halldorson); sister Kristine; brothers Johnny and Laugi; sister-in-law Josie; brothers-in-law Siggi, Hugh, Don and Clarence; niece Lori; nephews Elvin and Ken; nephews-in-law Brian and Blake and niece-in-law Brenda. Kris was born December 22, 1925 in Geysir, MB and took his schooling in Riverton. At a very young age he developed his love of music and playing violin. This interest followed him throughout his life. Kris, along with his brothers and sisters and friend Harold Bjornson started a band, Johnny and His Musical Mates, which took them to dance halls throughout the Interlake for nearly 70 years. He also played with nephew Dick Johnson's band throughout the years. Kris cherished times playing violin alongside his grandson Trevor and his nephew Brady. He always adored anytime spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were all precious to him. A mechanic by trade, Kris travelled throughout the north as far as Tuktoyaktuk and Inuvik, BC and Interlake on jobs throughout his career. He was also employed for 22 years as the mechanic and bus driver for the Evergreen School Division. In his spare time he had a love for farming and spent many enjoyable hours working his fields. Kris served on the Riverton Credit Union board of directors for 15 years and over 30 years of dedicated service to the Riverton Cemetery. He spent many hours with friend Halli at Riverton Cemetery doing various improvements. He was devoted to his family and always had a helping hand for family and friends. The family would like to thank all the doctors, numerous nurses, staff and home care services for all their wonderful care provided. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 26, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Riverton Hall, with a private family interment. Flowers are gratefully declined, donations can be made to the Riverton Cemetery.
