Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEVELYN TKACHUK In loving memory of our mother, baba, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Evelyn Tkachuk, who passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2010. Mom was born December 12, 1913 in Vita, MB to Michael and Petrunia (Kolisnyk) Stachiw. Mom was predeceased by her husband George in 1989, son Maurice in 1966 and an infant son, Matt; her sister Sophie and sons-in-law Steve and Ralph. Evelyn is survived by her daughters Jean and Elsie and her son Peter and wife Niki; her grandchildren, Garry (Brenda), Jerry (Darlene), Shirley (Steve), Patsy, Janie (Lawrence), Brian, Brenda (Mike), David (Kim), Courtney (Gregg); 16 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; sister Ann Smigelsky and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was a 4'10 , white haired, blue-eyed, one-of-a-kind, hard working woman. Along with her husband George, she owned and operated a number of restaurants and into her 80s was employed as a part time cook. Mom never learned to drive a car and would take the bus to her part time cook job. She was never afraid of waiting for the 6:00 a.m. bus (in the dark) as the bus stop was in front of a church. Over the years, Mom/Baba kept us supplied with dozens of perogies, cabbage rolls and apple pies. And OH!!, those doughnuts. Our freezers were full. One never left her home hungry and were always given a care package to take home. Even though she claimed her fridge was empty, she somehow could make a feast. The last few years, Evelyn was a resident at Vista Park Lodge, where she was affectionately known as Bossy Baba . She made perogies in her dreams and often kept the evening and night staff company. THANK YOU. We, the family, wish to thank her neighbours on Fontaine Crescent, staff and residents of Villa Cabrini for their friendship; Vista Park Lodge for their expertise, kindness and friendship in caring for Evelyn. Following Evelyn's wish, her granddaughters Shirley, Patsy, Brenda, Janie, Courtney and great-granddaughter Sherry are honorary pallbearers. Evelyn's pallbearers are her grandsons Garry, Jerry, Brian, David and great-grandsons Jamie and Scott. Service to celebrate the life of Evelyn will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 24 at Neil Bardal Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, across from Brookside Cemetery with Fr. John Melnyk officiating.
