Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY THIESSEN (nee VOTH) October 7, 1915 - April 28, 2010 Mary died peacefully at the age of 94 at Eastview Place Personal Care Home in Altona, MB. She was born in Ukraine and immigrated to Canada with her family at the age of eight years. She was predeceased by her husband David in 1967, her son Henry in 1978 and her daughter-in-law Alda in 1987. She was also predeceased by five grandchildren, Rosella Derksen, Delbert and Melody Penner their daughter Chelsea, and Christopher Cunningham, her parents Herman and Maria, siblings Eva, Herman, David, John, Katie, Henry, and Ben. She is survived by her children Rudy (Susanne), Louise Derksen (Walter), Ben (Erna), Waldo (Lorna), Margaret Klassen (Peter), (Susie), Helen Penner (Jake), Frieda Loewen (Aron), Eva Harder (Abe), Erma Whetter (Glen), Dan (Virginia), John (Rita), Vern (Gail), Viola Harder (Ben); 43 grand-children and their spouses, 80 great-grand-children; four great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Margaret. Mary was a kind and gentle person who had a deep faith in God and gave of herself for her family and others using her incredible gift of baking to brighten the day of those in her life. She loved to travel bringing back tea spoons from the places she visited. She was a strong woman who sought to live her life well. Special thanks to the staff of Eastview Place who have lovingly cared for Mom for the last five and one-half years. The care she received was exceptional and deeply appreciated by Mary and her family. A memorial service will be held at Eastview Place on Friday, April 30 at 8:45 a.m. Viewing at Wiebe's Funeral Home in Altona on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Burial will be held on Saturday, May 1 at 11:00 a.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery at #1 Hwy. E. - inside the Perimeter Hwy. followed by a celebration of her life to be held at the Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church, 145 Henderson Hwy. at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Union Gospel Mission. Wiebe Funeral Home Altona in care of arrangements.
