BERTHA GWENDOLYNE DYKES (nee GROSE) 1918 - 2010 Our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on Friday, March 5, 2010 at the Grace Hospital. She is survived by her sons Rick (Charlotte), Ross (Sandra) and Don (Cindy and her daughter Kyla), daughter-in-law Juanita, brother-in-law Andrew, sister-in-law Margaret, grandchildren Ricky, Jimmy, Vince, Jacenta, Russell, Robyn, Tricia, Janey and their families, including eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Jack in 1996, her oldest son John in 2008, and sisters Juel, Alma and Ila. Bert was born and lived in Stonewall before moving with her family to Walnut Street in Winnipeg. She married Jack in 1938. She and Jack travelled with the Air Force during the war and lived in Claresholm and Kamloops. After Jack's discharge in 1946, they settled in Winnipeg and built a house on Chalfont Road in Charleswood where Bert lived until last summer. In later years she spent many hours on her deck reading and enjoying the wildlife in her large backyard. Bert enjoyed working in the fashion industry including working for Eatons for years, managing Fairweather in Polo Park and sketching and writing for Style Magazine She also had a love of flowers, especially roses and worked for Ormiston Florist after she retired. Bert enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed. To remember Bert with family and friends, a service will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Charleswood United Church.
