MARTHA KATHERINE TUXWORTH Wife, Mother, Grandmother Volunteer, Friend, Swimming Enthusiast Mom was born in Chicago, Illinois, on November 8, 1926, the elder of two children. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and loyal friend. Martha passed away peacefully at the Victoria Hospital on April 25, 2010. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Richard Henry, daughters, Susan (Al) Nelson, Wendy (Ian) Smith and Karen (Terry) Klassen, as well as six grandchildren, Shauna (Richard), Eric, Scott, Kelsey, Brycie, Reid, a niece, nephew and numerous friends. Martha was a very social person and enjoyed the company of her family and friends. She went to the University of Colorado where she earned her degree in mathematics. She later met dad and moved to Deep River, Ontario. She moved with her family to Pinawa, Manitoba in 1965. She then worked in the library at the Atomic Energy of Canada for 20 years. Martha had an extraordinary love of being around people and socializing with those around her. They could not say enough nice things about her as a friend and a co-worker at her retirement party. Her kind and thoughtful ways had an everlasting impact on those around her. While staying physically active into her senior years with swimming, her first and foremost love, she would swim laps in the pool into her early 80s, took pilates and body sculpting lessons. She was also actively involved in the 55 plus club in Pinawa. After she retired, she continued to be very active, babysitting her grandchildren whom she adored, volunteering in the local school and visiting with friends. She was always enthusiastic to attend a music concert of her children or grandchildren. Martha was also always quick to plan yearly family gatherings at Victoria Beach which we will all cherish in our memories forever. She took extra pride in her family and was always there for them. Her love and zest for life would always come shining through even amidst difficult times. She was always there for people to lend a helping hand. Grandma loved to be surrounded by family, and also loved to spend time with her many friends. Travelling was one of her main passions. She was able to travel to Europe on several occasions and visited many different countries. Mom will be deeply missed and a celebration of her life will be held at the Pinawa Lutheran Church in Pinawa, Manitoba on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Thank you to Dr. Young, Dr. Penner and the nursing staff on Unit 5 at Victoria General Hospital for your excellent care and support.
