MABEL PALMER With family at her side, we announce the passing of Mabel Palmer on April 23, 2010. She was born in Portage la Prairie Municipality on March 2, 1916 and raised on a farm in the Currie district. In 1940 she married Cyril Palmer and has resided from then till now in MacGregor. Mabel had 94 years of happy, healthy living. She exemplified good citizenship and was dedicated to her husband and family. Mabel raised three active boys, demonstrated by being a top-notch Hockey Mom and general sports promotionalist . She was an excellent cookie, soup, tart and pie baker of renowned fame. She was a dedicated and sincere Church and Community worker, assisting her husband in gardening and contributing to the beauty of their surroundings. Mabel was always a friend and neighbour with a cheerful smile and was non-judgmental. In her work career she was a proficient clerk, serving the public for many years at the local hardware store. She was also a great curler, card player and avid golfer. Mabel and Cyril shared their love of music and dancing throughout their lifetime together. Last, but not least, she was a loving, caring Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, keeping a positive outlook on life in the face of all adversities, celebrating moments of joy and laughter and sharing wisdom and friendship with others. Mabel was predeceased by her loving husband, Cyril, parents Caroline and Arthur Allen, sisters Carrie, Doris, Alice, Margaret, Muriel, and brother Thomas. The family who survive to celebrate her long life are sons Kelvin (Norrene), Doug (Peggy), Rick (Lynda), grandchildren Christine (Jamie), Scott (Pam), Laurie (Raul), Jeff (Nikki), great-grandchildren Alicia and Lauren Palmer, Gael and Luka Hernandez, Leni and Sloane Palmer and many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 8 at 11:00 a.m. at the Omega Funeral Home, 83 Royal Road South, Portage la Prairie. A private family interment will take place in MacGregor Cemetery. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Anglican Church, MacGregor, MB R0H 0R0 or MacGregor Health Centre, Box 250, MacGregor, MB R0H 0R0. You were deeply loved and will forever be in our hearts.   • I remember Maybel well. I went to visit with Kelvin. He and I worked together at Federal Grain in 1959. I named my son after Kelvin. I tried to find him for years but never could.
